University of Texas Health Science Center Research Technician-Intermediate in San Antonio, Texas
The purpose of this position is to collect and compile all patient history data for patient participation in clinical trials at the Mays Cancer Center Clinical Trials Office.
Enter active patients into the clinical trials management system, VELOS. Adds consented patient’s new statuses in Velos eresearch and associates the patients with the study calendar for the arm of the study in which the patient will be participating, for tracking and billing purposes. Creates, organizes and maintains on a daily basis, patient specific research binders to house research study related documentation that are not part of patient’s medical care / health records. Manages up to 20 assigned clinical trials with 30-100 patients total. Follows patient’s appointment schedule for treatment, scans, research tumor measurements and follow up for the purpose of collecting treatment orders, discs of imaging, radiology reports and study required forms for managing and data entry. Data entry into the IDEAS system for all patient accruals and screenings for a clinical trial.
Accesses the EMR systems of local hospitals and imaging centers to quickly obtain records of patient’s hospitalizations, screening assessments and radiology, routing documents accordingly. Complete data requests for nursing staff, including requesting and obtaining serious adverse event medical records from hospitals within 24 hours. Request missing patient data including history, on-study, and follow-up records as directed by nursing/Research Area Specialist staff.
Demonstrates due diligence and methods of good clinical practice in performing quality assurance checks on patient research documents to assist with clean data consisting of required physician signatures, declarations, accurate dates, documentation and their contemporaneous completion.
Managing query and expectation reports and completing data entry. Entering data into the OPEN funding memo in CTSU for reimbursement from Sponsor. Assisting study coordinating staff with study notebook preparation by placing needed information such as Quality of Life questionnaires, updated consent forms, and drug diaries in front of study notebook.
Participate in all assigned Protocol Start-up Meetings as well as departmental, inter- departmental, and training meetings. Assist in preparation for Sponsor Audits/Monitoring visits. Support nurses/ Research Area Specialists and perform other duties as assigned.
