University of Texas Health Science Center Research Assistant-Senior in San Antonio, Texas

Job Description

To provide research assistance while performing ongoing research projects to identify mechanisms and biomarkers of diabetic kidney disease using clinical, animal, and cell based experiments with focus on GC-MS and spatial metabolomics essays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduates with major in biochemistry, molecular biology, physiology or related field, and at least 2 years of laboratory experience.
  • Prior experience with mass spectroscopy and handling of large scale samples will be preferred.
  • College level coursework completed in biochemistry, molecular biology, physiology or related field and at lest two years of laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
  • Experience with cell culture and molecular biology (bacterial transformations, PCR and cloning), preferred.
  • Ability to read and follow written and verbal experimental protocols.
  • General computer skills with ab8ility to use computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint.
  • Strong organizational skills ad willingness to adopt and follow organizational SOPS for smooth laboratory functioning.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and electronic communication skills that facilitate professional, effective, and courteous interaction and diverse population.

Assist with sample preparation for GC-MS and spatial metabolomics; Prepare buffers and stock solutions, aliquot samples and reagents, organize freezers and maintain records of the location of all samples and reagents.

Perform basic biochemical and molecular biology procedures including, but not limited to, ELISA assay, Western blotting, histology, immunofluorescence, PCR and real-time PCR, and DNA extractions

Assist in the day-to-day maintenance of basic laboratory operations including, but not limited to, general maintenance of laboratory, Monitor supply inventory.

Assist researchers with data entry as necessary. Attend and participate in discussions at regular lab meetings.
