Group Sales Manager

Job Purpose:

To assist the Director of Sales & Marketing in the management, coordination and execution of items related to the marketing and sales operation of the hotel. Responsible for the management and solicitation of designated markets.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan, direct, organize and control departmental activities such as telemarketing, outside sales calls, conducting walking tours, entertaining clients, developing and soliciting new leads, presenting and preparing written proposals and contracts.

  • Supervise and develop sales staff through account review, correspondence review and coaching toward improvement.

  • Communicates with guests and team members both verbally and in writing to answer questions and provide clear direction in advising and instructing staff in details of work.

  • Gather, organize and disseminate both written and verbal information regarding the specific requirements of client’s events to the appropriate departments and individual clients in a prompt, accurate, profitable, pleasant, and professional manner.

  • Coordinates ongoing research of the travel industry to detect market trends and related information for development of new marketing strategies. Make reasonable recommendations to improve potential from various markets.

  • Organize and/or attend scheduled Sales, Revenue and other related meetings.

  • Develop target lists and action plans for account solicitation. Assist in assignment and distribution of leads. Provide guidance in prospecting and qualifying potential leads.

  • Demonstrates positive leadership characteristics that inspire team members to meet and exceed standards, and promote team member empowerment.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Skills:

  • Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy to defuse anger and collect accurate information and resolve conflicts.

  • Basic mathematical skills and considerable skill in the use of a calculator to prepare moderately complex mathematical calculations without error.

  • Ability to listen effectively and to speak English clearly.

  • Ability to access and accurately input information using a moderately complex computer system.

  • Hearing and visual ability to observe and detect signs of emergency situations.

  • Ability to prepare complex reports.

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in order to provide leadership, and delegate where necessary.

  • Ability to travel throughout designated markets in a timely manner.

  • Analytical ability to decipher data and make sound decisions.

  • Strong knowledge of the designated markets.

  • Ability to organize detailed information.

  • Strong leadership skills.

Qualifications Standards


High school graduate or equivalent required.

Minimum of 4 year college degree preferred.


Minimum of 3 years experience preferred.
